We are pleased to announce $150,000 in funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to purchase
kitchen equipment for the new St. John’s Kitchen, as part of the Making Home project at 97 Victoria St.
N. in Kitchener.
Thanks to this Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium
Foundation, the kitchen will have a new Multi-burner Induction Stove, Convection Steamer, Convection
Oven, Walk-in Cooler and Foodcycle Composter among other things.
Built as a ground-floor extension to the existing heritage building, the new St. John’s Kitchen will enjoy a
bright and welcoming dining hall and will continue to be a gathering place for those in need of nutritious
meals, access to health services and harm reduction supplies, laundry, showers, washrooms, drop-in and
problem-solving supports.
During construction of the new facility, St. John’s Kitchen has temporarily located at St. John’s Anglican
Church at the corner of Duke and Water Streets. Established in 1985, St. John’s Kitchen is a vital hub of services
for people who experiencing homelessness or are precariously housed – providing over 400
daily meals a day and food hampers in cooperation with Waterloo Region Foodbank, providing showers,
washrooms, laundry and drop-in space through all weather conditions, connection to health care in
partnership with Community Health Caring, links to outreach supports, housing and income support
services, street outreach supports, mental health and addiction supports.
A place where all are
welcome, especially as we witness the growing hardships faced by people who are living unsheltered in
our community.
